Position Summary
Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Supply Chain Specialist supports our Operations Team by purchasing materials, supplies, and services on favorable terms for the organization.
This position plays an important role in maintaining the flow of materials needed to support production and customer demand. The Supply Chain Specialist manages purchase orders, monitors inventory, works closely with suppliers, addresses supply issues, and partners with Planning, Scheduling, Customer Service, Logistics, Operations, and Strategic Purchasing to support efficient operations and on-time, in-full (OTIF) delivery.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers for local services, materials, and supplies.
- Determine material requirements and help maintain optimal raw material inventory levels.
- Create and manage purchase orders for the local facility using SAP.
- Participate in inventory counts and manage raw material inventory using SAP and Excel.
- Follow established reorder point (ROP) and safety stock processes.
- Partner with the Strategic Purchasing Group to optimize order quantities and purchasing activities.
- Monitor supplier performance and ensure suppliers meet contractual obligations.
- Ensure the approved supplier mix is followed.
- Identify supplier issues and escalate significant supply interruptions while keeping key stakeholders informed.
- Coordinate with Planning, Scheduling, Customer Service, and Logistics to support OTIF delivery while minimizing scrap.
- Manage SMOB activities.
- Purchase safety-related supplies and equipment as needed.
- Support compliance with applicable BRC, FDA, ISO, and other relevant quality standards.
- Serve as a backup for production scheduling.
- Support special projects and team initiatives as needed.
- Champion and promote a strong safety culture.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least one year of purchasing experience.
- At least one year of experience using SAP; SAP Fiori experience is preferred.
- Manufacturing or packaging experience is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time-management and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and respond effectively to urgent business needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to stand, walk, and sit; see and hear; use hands and fingers with sufficient dexterity; and lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Employees are required to wear appropriate safety equipment when applicable, including eye, hearing, and foot protection.
